The causes of spider veins are:

  • sun exposure
  • increased venous pressure in the area

  • rosacea
  • collagen diseases
How do we treat spider veins at Tzouma Clinic?

Doctors at Tzouma Clinic assess the clinical picture of the problem. The position of spider veins e.g. face or body. The color and condition of the skin and suggest the appropriate therapeutic approach for you. In several cases, you may need to be prescribed a leg vein triplex or even an assessment by a specialist vascular surgeon, a partner of the clinic.

The most simple and effective treatment of spider veins in the face area is the laser Nd:Yag. Correspondingly in the body, the laser has excellent results even on numerous lesions. In some cases, local sclerotherapy with special injections may be necessary. Physicians design the vessels that can be healed with the laser. They guide you through the rest of the treatment protocol you need to follow to get the result you want.

The laser we use in Tzouma Clinic to treat spider veins is the Nd:Yag Laser. At Tzouma clinic we use two top Nd:Yag laser, from American companies, Candela and cynosure. The NdYag laser is officially approved by the FDA for the treatment of spider veins and is a permanent and effective solution.

The results are permanent and the vessels treated never reappear in the same parts of the body

– How does Nd:Yag laser work in spider veins?

The laser (Nd: Yag) emits a high-intensity light beam that penetrates the skin and transfers a specific amount of energy to a particular target such as the vessel. Their energy penetrates the skin targeting only the “broken” vessels that are dilated venules, capillaries or arterioles. The energy of the LASERS is absorbed exclusively by the red pigment of the blood. That is, hemoglobin, while the surrounding normal tissue remains intact. Upon application of the treatment, the temperature of the vessel rises. The blood circulation stops intravascularly and then the vessel is destroyed and gradually absorbed by the body.

For each spider vein, different parameters are required in the laser device depending on the depth, color, and size of the vascular damage. These parameters are determined by the doctors of the clinic who apply the treatment and undertake the course of the sessions.

– How long does the session last?

The session lasts from 10 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the extent of the area.
The treatment is done in the clinic and the patient can return to normal activities immediately after treatment.

– Is it painful treatment?

Patients describe a slight pain during the session. The sensation is like a mild burn or a bug bite. However, Tzouma Clinic’s NdYag lasers use suitable cooling mechanisms throughout the sessions to make treatment as tolerable as possible.

– How many sessions are required?

An average number of sessions is 2-3 sessions with an interval of 1-2 months. The doctors of the clinic will show you your own treatment protocol.

– What are the results and what should I pay attention to after the session?

The result is immediate and a mild erythema, that occurs locally, gradually resolves within 1-2 weeks. The use of a special cream on both the face and body is recommended as well as the use of tight tights for 3-4 days after application for the feet. The larger and darker vessels of the feet can show a bruising image for 10-15 days. In this case an arnica cream will be very useful.

The results are permanent and the vessels treated never reappear in the same parts of the body. However, new lesions may occur in other parts of the body as long as the predisposing factors continue to exist. It is necessary to avoid exposure to the sun.
