Regeneration with Laser / Fraxel, Pico & CO2

Thanks to the advanced technology of Fraxel, Pico and CO2 lasers we erase wrinkles, acne scars, flaccidity, stretch marks, freckles and tattoos in a very short time and with very simple recovery.

Previously doctors stimulated regeneration mechanisms causing a type of skin injury to stimulate collagen synthesis. But now lasers have evolved so much that they can activate regeneration without having to shock the cells. Thanks to the advanced technology of Fraxel, Pico and CO2 lasers, we encourage fibroblasts to synthesize collagen not only in the micro areas we have targeted but also in all neighboring cells. Wrinkles, acne scars, flaccidity, stretch marks, freckles and tattoos fade in a much shorter time than with other treatments with a much simpler recovery.

Discovery Pico laser: the miracle of lasers

At Tzouma Clinic we are once again pioneering and becoming the first clinic in Greece to use Quanta System’s Discovery Pico Plus, the most effective laser in the world in removing discolorations, scars, tattoos and regeneration. The doctor-dermatologist Anastasia Tzouma and the specialized scientific staff of Tzouma Clinic, having received special training in America and Italy, successfully apply the most powerful and flexible laser that thanks to its innovative way of action has the most impressive performance even in tattoos that were traditionally difficult to remove. The Pico laser injects the energy with tiny bundles of light under the epidermis in infinitesimal fractions of a second. Its rays open to the surface diodes that resemble dots. In this way the energy reaches the deeper layers without causing any sign externally. Therefore it manages to fix the scars, erase the blemishes, soothe the fine wrinkles and make the tattoos disappear.

– How is it different from other lasers?
  • The advanced technology of Pico differs in the duration of the laser pulse, that is in the time the beam comes in contact with the skin. In this new laser time is measured in picoseconds. ‘Pico’ is a subdivision of ‘nano’, which means that picoseconds are 1,000 times smaller fractions of a second than the nanoseconds on which most lasers have traditionally operated until now.
  • This means that the new laser can use a higher intensity ensuring greater efficiency and greater safety thanks to the shorter contact time of the skin with its ray. As the blows are absorbed, the laser energy stimulates collagen and elastin to tighten and smooth wrinkles giving an impressive result.
  • • The important thing is that the adjacent tissues remain intact and the treatments leave no mark on the skin. With a pico laser session we can have porcelain skin without imperfections, blemishes, scars or acne marks. The number of sessions required depends on the case.

The fractional and Pico combination: The invention of Pico with its millions of beats per second also changes the data for fractional lasers. Now they don’t leave their mark on the target cells because the duration of the beat is so short that it can’t cause any kind of injury. Thanks to these beats fibroblasts are stimulated and synthesize collagen through a completely natural process.

How many applications are needed: A treatment with fractional Pico can turn back the age of our skin several years and replace many of the painful techniques we have done in the past. At the same time, the same session addresses all signs of age such as spots, freckles, spider veins, dilated pores, blurred appearance. Usually two applications are required, one month apart, but if the wear is extensive more repetitions are done. In the first few days after the procedure it will be red but the regeneration is done quickly. So after each treatment, the skin is beautiful and relaxed without suffering. With this mechanism and specific therapeutic protocol, Discovery Pico Laser is used with excellent results in the most difficult cases such as acne scars and stretch marks.

“Pico’s scientific avant-garde manages to naturally stimulate collagen by achieving deep regeneration and eliminating scars, blemishes and tattoos of all colors.”

Fraxel Restore Dual: the laser of the new era

– Regeneration

The technological superiority of Fraxel Dual Restore makes it ideal for the activation of natural regenerative mechanisms without injuring the skin and without requiring recovery time. Fraxel is approved by the American Medicines Agency (FDA) for the following:

  • Wrinkles around the eyes
  • Acne scars and surgical
  • Spots, freckles (pigmented lesions)
  • Melasma (Pregnancy Mask)
  • Actinic hyperkeratoses (precancerous lesions)
  • Skin resurfacing
  • Striations (stretch marks)

Treatment with Fraxel™ helps to provide a fresher and younger complexion on the face, neck, neckline and hands, reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, and improve the appearance of acne scars and surgical scars. Patients see immediate results from the first treatment while the maximum benefit becomes visible after 3 to 5 treatments.

How to regenerate: Fraxel treatment stimulates the natural healing process of the body itself, which regenerates damaged skin making it fresh, shiny and healthy. This ensures two levels of results, immediate and progressive. Immediately after completing the first treatment, the skin will be more radiant and with a better tone. The improvement of the skin will continue and will be spectacular with the desired results being visible within the next three to six months, as the deeper layers of the skin continue to heal.

– Photo-aging

Solar radiation destroys the fibers of collagen and elastin while at the same time preventing the production of new ones. The result is a prematurely aged skin. At the same time, the radiation also affects the function of melanocytes which, instead of uniformly secreting melanin, they accumulate it at a specific point creating the blemishes. The “eraser” that extinguishes the damage of the sun is the Fraxel. Due to the dotted technology, the laser penetrates the skin and acts on specific cells leaving the adjacent tissues intact. In this way we can correct all the damage of photoaging, from discoloration to fine wrinkles and relaxation.

How to treat: For one refresh treatment one application is sufficient, but to complete the treatment three repetitions are needed, one month apart. At the same time, we apply special creams with regenerating agents at home. Daily use of sunscreen with protection index 15-30 is necessary. Direct sun exposure should be avoided during healing and for 2 to 3 months after the last treatment. For extra protection, we wear a hat.

– Scars & acne scars

Acne scars are one of the most common aesthetic problems of young age. The Fraxel Restore laser is the approved treatment for them by the FDA of America.

How Fraxel works: The scars are areas of discoloured fibrous tissue with impaired collagen production. To address the signs, fibroblasts need to be restored. This will create new collagen which will correct the texture and color of the scar. The fractional laser manages to both remove damaged tissue and motivate the formation of new and healthy one.

Application: The procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes, it requires topical use of anesthetic cream while during treatment cold air is injected into the application area making it very well tolerated. In the next few days there will be only a mild blush and swelling in the area lasting from 2 to 5 days depending on the treatment. Usually 2 to 5 sessions are required depending on the extent and severity of the problem with intervals of 3 to 6 weeks.

Post-treatment: The results are immediate but also progressive. From the very first days the skin looks more radiant and healthy. Gradually, as the deeper layers continue to heal by activating the fibroblasts and producing new collagen, the skin improves. In 2 to 3 months it is smoother, shinier and firmer, while both red and white scars are corrected, which is extremely difficult or impossible with any other laser.

– Stretch marks

Until now we knew that the effectiveness of stretch marks treatment depends on the phase they are in. When they are red, their treatment is successful. But when time passes, they get old, whitened and become more persistent. Fibroblasts die and conventional treatments fail. The most effective treatment is with the Laser Fraxel Restore Dual, which has been officially approved by the FDA for this purpose.

How it works: The laser produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of thermal microthermal regeneration. It is the only laser that can pass into the deeper layers of the skin and activate the collagen without damaging the surface layers. It targets 6 to 50 % of the surface of the skin while the remaining 50 to 95 % remains intact and through fibroblasts leads to rapid healing and restoration. Usually 2 to 5 sessions are required depending on the extent and severity of the problem with intervals of 3 to 6 weeks. The treatment is supplemented with regenerative creams.

Fractional CO2: The cost-effective and safe option for skin regeneration

The revolutionary fractional CO2 technology allows the “digital processing” of the skin and the correction of cell to cell imperfections. The laser injects the energy with tiny bundles of light under the epidermis and its rays open up dot-like diodes to the surface. In this way the energy reaches the deeper layers without causing any sign externally. So it manages to fix the scars, erase the blemishes, soothe the wrinkles. At Tzouma Clinic we have the ultramodern laser of quanta systems which is not a typical CO2 laser but combines simultaneously in the same pulse the erbium glass laser, ie the technology of fraxel laser, to a smaller degree, and in this way it gives extremely safe results much more impressive and faster than any CO2 laser.

– How is fractional CO2 different from classic CO2 laser?

Its difference from laser resurfacing CO2 is that it does not cause widespread irritation but acts selectively. Fractional technology targets tiny areas of skin that do not exceed the extent of a dot. In this way, microscopic injuries are caused. This is how fibroblasts are motivated to synthesize collagen, i.e. new skin, not only in the targeted micro-regions but also in all neighboring cells.

– How does fractional CO2 work?

The laser beams are extremely small so the “injury” they cause to the skin is minimal. Each time the fractional laser passes over the face, it accurately and effectively removes some of the outer layers of the skin at the appropriate depth. This is followed by the healing of the skin that is fast thanks to the new collagen and elastin that are produced and regenerate the skin, but also thanks to the healthy skin that comes to cover the tiny dots created by fractional laser. The result is a rejuvenated skin without scars, spots, blemishes, fine wrinkles and visibly revitalized thanks to the new collagen and elastin fibers that support it and give it turgor.

– What will the face look like after the treatment?

After treatment the face is red for the first 2-4 days and slightly swollen. The synthesis of collagen begins immediately and is completed even 6 months after treatment. Visits are repeated 2 to 4 times, depending on the degree of the problem, three weeks apart.

– What problems are encountered with fractional CO2?

Thanks to the action on collagen, fractional CO2 is ideal for:

  • Acne scars: The fractional laser manages to both remove the damaged skin from the acne and motivate the formation of a new one. Quick results with the most economical solution.
  • Stretch marks: Its action in both red and white stretch marks is impressive thanks to the simultaneous targeting of the two lasers, erbium glass and CO2 simultaneously.
  • Dyschromias (blemishes, spots): As the laser stimulates the synthesis of collagen, the new skin that is formed does not suffer from dyschromias. At some point the problems may reoccur, so we repeat the treatment.
  • Thin & deep wrinkles: With fractional CO2 the function of fibroblasts and wrinkles are filled with the natural collagen synthesized by the body.
  • Open pores: The thermal energy of the laser causes an inflammatory reaction in the skin which results in shrinkage.
