Microneedling is a mesotherapy technique with multiple pinches. Using special pen-like devices, at the tip of them disposable heads with multiple fine needles are placed. At Tzouma Clinic, in addition to traditional microneedling devices, we have the most modern and safest microneedling device in the world, the SkinPen.

SkinPen is the only device that has received official approval from the US Food and Drug Administration, FDA. FDA approval covers not only the SkinPen device but the entire protocol. This includes the Skinfuse® Lift HG hydrogel used to protect against friction and friction during treatment as well as the specially designed BioSheath to protect the device.

– How do these fine microneedling needles work?

The fine needles penetrate the skin up to 100 times per second at an adjustable speed. But also to a depth ranging from 0.25 mm to 2.5 mm, depending on the treatment area and the needs of each skin. The fine needles penetrate the skin vertically, minimising skin damage. It also reduces pain and recovery time.

They cause multiple micro-injuries to the skin but due to the elasticity of the epidermal cells the micro-holes close very quickly and within a few hours the skin returns to its normal state. The needles we use in microneedling are of single use.

– Is microneedling a form of mesotherapy?

Yes, it is a form of mesotherapy in which we inject various substances into the lower skin layer. Where even the best anti-ageing or hydrating/moisturising cream cannot penetrate. The substances used are usually hyaluronic acid solutions as well as active ingredients such as vitamins and antioxidants and retinol.

– How does traditional needle mesotherapy differ from microneedling?

Microneedling is superior in the regeneration process. This happens because it has the ability to penetrate the skin up to 100 times per second. We know that the more we pierce the skin the better regeneration we achieve.

In traditional mesotherapy with the use of needles, the substances that we inject penetrate much deeper than in micro needling and in higher concentrations, but it is not possible to make as many pinches as in microneedling, so the regenerative property is much less in traditional needle mesotherapy.

– In which cases is microneedling indicated?
  • In anti-ageing but also in the correction of already formed wrinkles using mainly hyaluronic, vitamin C, retinol, ascorbic acid, dmae.
  • In acne scars and acne, with a special protocol decided by the clinic doctors using mainly a special retinol mixture
  • In dull and oily skin
  • In melasma and discolorations using lutathione, vit C and hyaluronic acid.
  • In the improvement of skin texture and reduction of pores
– Is microneedling a painful treatment?

We use a special anaesthetic cream 20 minutes before but the treatment with modern Microneedling is completely painless even without using this cream.

– How will my skin look like after Microneedling?

Immediately after the treatment the facial skin will be red. But with the help of a special mask or dermalux, with soothing and regenerative properties that we apply if necessary immediately after the treatment, it subsides quite a bit. The special Jane Iredale make-up products are applied right after so that the patient can return to its daily duties immediately. The next two days there will be mild redness on the face but with a great glow. The redness is covered with a common make up but even without it, it is not a problem.

In cases of deep regeneration where retinol was used, there will be a mild peeling for 1-2 days. Once the symptoms of the first two days have subsided the skin will be firm; without discolorations and very glowing. In the next days the fine wrinkles will look smoother and the acne scars will gradually recede quite a bit by the end of the sessions.

– Are special precautions required after Microneedling treatment?

The use of sun screen with spf 50+ is essential as in all skin regeneration treatments.

– Is Microneedling combined with other treatment?

At Tzouma Clinic we have exclusive combination protocols of microneedling with various other treatments such as poreover and prx microneedling. The clinic’s doctors will create your personalised protocol and will also suggest a personalised daily routine protocol based on the needs of the face in order to enhance the effects and their duration.
