Blepharoplasty without surgery

A new technology promises to tighten the skin without incisions and without having to be absent from our activities.

The plasma energy succeeds in subtly and progressively shrinking the basic layer of the thin skin of the upper eyelids and some periorbital wrinkles and effectively treats their sagging.

– How does it work?

The new technology uses a small electric arc that resembles a small thunder in order to selectively increase the temperature in a specific area of the skin, evaporating the skin tissues without affecting the deeper skin layers. No incision is made and no extra skin and fat is removed. All it does is to evaporate keratinocytes thanks to plasma energy, without causing bleeding and without causing necrosis in the surrounding tissues. The system is very precise and does not dissipate heat to surrounding areas, meaning it is ideal for working on sensitive areas such as the eyelids. The machine works by ionising air particles between its tip and the skin to form the plasma. An electric arc is created, which leads to sublimation i.e. it turns the skin into a gas. Therefore, the effects are instantaneous, but without the heat being transferred to the surrounding space. The resulting tissue contraction and tightening gives results that are comparable to those seen with invasive surgery.

– What is the procedure?

After applying local anaesthetic ointment, we use the device to remove the dead keratinocytes. The session lasts 5 minutes and scars that are less than a millimeter in size disappear in a few days. In each session we intervene on both the upper and lower eyelid.

– How will my skin look after?

The plasma treatment has been proven to be safe however there will be some brown marks but after about 5 days they will subside, revealing new pinkish skin underneath with the help of the regenerating cream we use. Some swelling will be noticed but it will last 3 to 5 days. The patient returns to his or her duties the next day by applying make-up to the area where the plasma was applied and protecting the area with sunscreen. All the marks gradually subside and the procedure is repeated 3 times (once a month). When completed we achieve total renewal of the periorbital area.

– In which cases is it recommended?

The treatment is indicated when the eyelid relaxation is limited. In this case we have an improvement of up to 100%. However, if the relaxation is extensive and obscures the field of vision, this technique is not indicated and we proceed to fractional CO2 blepharoplasty.
